Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for staff
Multi-factor authentication is enabled to increase the security of your account. It means that in the unfortunate instance of someone else knowing your School Microsoft account password and attempting to log in, a prompt or SMS message will be sent to your phone to verify if it is you trying to log in. Of course, if you receive this prompt at a time when you personally are not trying to access your account, then please reject the request and notify the IT team immediately. You should only receive the prompts when you are trying to access your account from outside of School.
Please follow the steps below to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your account.
1. Visit this URL: https://aka.ms/mfasetup - you may be asked to re-enter your School email address and password.
2. At the next screen, press 'Next' to proceed to set up MFA:

3. You will then be presented with the following screen. At this point, you will need to decide if you want to download and use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, or if you would prefer to receive an SMS message to your phone instead.

4. If you would like to use the Authenticator app (the preferred way) then please download the Microsoft Authenticator app from your phone's app store then click the 'Next' button.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts, advising to open the Microsoft Authenticator app, allow notifications, then choose the 'plus/add' symbol and choose 'Work or school account'.
6. On your phone, choose 'Scan a QR code' then use your phone camera to scan the QR code shown on your computer screen.
7. It will then send a test notification to your mobile phone, and prompt you to enter the two digit number shown on your computer screen:

8. After successfully entering this number on your phone you should see the following message on your computer:

9. At this point, you have successfully set up MFA using your phone.
